Transportation between the Brussels International airport and Hasselt

By plane

There are two major airports in Belgium;

Brussels Airport in Zaventem, km from Brussel city and 80 km from Hasselt.
Brussels South Charleroi Airport in Charleroi, 46 km from Brussel city and 130 km from Hasselt.

By train

Every 20 minutes there is a shuttle train between Brussels airport and Brussels North Station; it takes 15 to 20 minutes and the price is 2.50 €. Every hour there is a direct connection by train between Brussels North Station and Hasselt; it takes 1 hour 16 minutes and the price is 9.60 €. The total price for a (2nd class) ticket one-way is 10.10 €. Information on the time schedule can be found at the website of the National Railway Company of Belgium.

Alternatively; every 30 minutes there is a shuttle train between Brussels airport and Leuven station; it takes 15 minutes and the price is 2.90 €. Every hour there is a direct connection by train between Leuven and Hasselt; it takes 45 minutes and the price is 6.40 €. By airport taxi

The most convenient way to travel from the airport to Hasselt (or to Diepenbeek) is to use a special airport taxi (small vans up to 8 people). A recommended service is "Airportservice Hasselt". The taxi brings you from the airport to your hotel/student room (or the registration desk) and vice-versa. At the airport, the driver will await you with a sign. Concerning the return to the airport, the taxi company will inform you about the pickup time at the hotel or student room.
